An 8-Week Evidence-Based Programme
Exploring awareness, perspective and choice in everyday life
This 8-week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) programme offers a structured and supportive way to explore how we relate to stress, thoughts, emotions and physical experience — and how greater awareness can create more choice and steadiness in daily life.
Developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn, MBSR is a well-established, evidence-based programme taught internationally across healthcare, education and community settings.
Through mindfulness practice, gentle movement and reflective inquiry, the course supports participants to develop a more compassionate and skilful relationship with their experience — without needing to fix or change who they are.
What the Programme Offers
Over eight weeks, the MBSR programme supports participants to explore:
- How habitual patterns of thinking and reacting shape experience
- Developing awareness of perception and perspective
- Working with self-talk in a kinder, more supportive way
- Creating space between stress and response
- Strengthening presence and attention
- Cultivating insight through mindful observation
- Meeting difficulty with greater steadiness and care
- Integrating mindfulness into everyday life
Each session builds on the previous one, allowing understanding and practice to deepen gradually over time.
Structure & Practicalities
- 8 weekly group sessions
- Approximately 2 hours per session
- A half-day retreat to support deeper practice and integration
- In-person at The Sanctuary of Healing, Langho
The programme is progressive and experiential, with opportunities to practise between sessions and reflect on how mindfulness shows up in daily life.
No previous mindfulness experience is required.
Who MBSR Is For
MBSR may be particularly supportive if you:
- Experience stress, overwhelm or ongoing pressure
- Notice habitual patterns of reactivity
- Want to develop greater awareness and emotional regulation
- Are interested in mindfulness as a practical life skill
- Value a paced, supportive learning environment
Approach
The programme is facilitated in a calm, inclusive and grounded way.
The emphasis is on awareness, agency and choice, rather than belief systems or positive thinking.
Mindfulness is offered as a practical, lived experience — supporting clarity, steadiness and resilience over time.
Why MBSR Works
MBSR does not aim to remove difficulty or change circumstances.
Instead, it supports a shift in how we relate to what is happening — creating the pause where choice becomes possible.
Over eight weeks, small changes in awareness can lead to meaningful differences in how stress is experienced and responded to in daily life.
Facilitated by Lissa Pickles, MA, Mindfulness Approaches (Distinction).
